This morning I ran barefoot, so no data was recorded (a trade I would gladly make any day), but yesterday I logged mile 500 on my latest pair of nike+ running shoes (just about a year old). For the serious runner, that is not a lot at all I am sure, but for me...
Finding the motivation is harder at times than others, but as soon as one foot starts falling in front of the other, it becomes by far the best part of my day. Something I just need to remind myself of.

Registering for the Nike Human Race, you're asked to fill out a completion of the sentence "I run because...". I could sum it up in one sentence, but it would do the real reasons why I run no justice.
I run because Sam jumps in circles with excitement when I put on my sneakers. Because it keeps me in 32 waist jeans. Because it helps me not gas out at jiu-jitsu. Because its one of the few times I can enjoy my music and truly listen to it. Because my running shoes fit in my backpack and can go wherever I do. Because everyday an extra half mile gets that much easier...
But most importantly I run because it feels good. It is my therapy. My afternoon at church. My hour on a shrink's couch. My conference call with myself. My excuse to enjoy the world around me (wherever I may be), and a few moments to be able to hear my own thoughts with some clarity and peace.
It is the part of my day when nothing matters except my breathing...
Shouldn't that always be the case?

Perfectly put. Great post Trevor! So glad Runner's Lounge linked you.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the running... and get some new shoes!!! You should replace every 300-500 miles.
P.S. New shoes makes you want to run more too! :)
Thanks for the comments.
ReplyDeleteI actually had just ordered a new pair of shoes a week before I logged mile 500. They just showed up last night. I'm looking forward to breaking them in!
Runners Lounge:: Thank you very much for the link and the kind words. I deeply appreciate it.
Matt:: We should definitely run the lake some weekend. We'll talk soon.
Having been a runner for as long as I can remember, and after just coming in from a run, I so loved this post. You said everything I would have said. It is the thing that keeps me balanced and sane. If I feel off, all I have to do is ask myself when I went running last. Usually, the answer is to pick up the shoes and get out there again. Great blog. P.S. loved your shoot of Judy and Jane.
